Tea for Two

About a month ago, my sisters-in-law and mom put together the most perfect baby shower. If you’ve been following along with my blog from the start, you know that I am a tea lover. Not just because it tastes good, but because of the whole atmosphere and experience. I’ve said this so much I probably sound like a broken record. But, it’s something I’ve grown to love more and more as time goes on – I’ve even fooled Chase. Only a real man can embrace drinking from a tea cup with no shame.

The shower was all things tea related – my sisters-in-law and mom managed to gather enough fine china tea cups and saucers for every guest, as well as lace table cloths, THE BEST earl grey tea with vanilla, sugar cubes, cream, and to really elevate the whole tea party theme they made (from scratch) Irish scones, orange iced scones, lavender shortbread cookies, chocolate dipped shortbread cookies, and clotted cream (which took more than a day!). My niece also wrote all the food labels you’ll see. The women in my family know me really well, because this was basically an at-home tea party of my dreams. I honestly think I was a little overwhelmed, in a good way, with how much work they did and the fact that so many women came to be a part of this day.

Well, I don’t THINK I was overwhelmed…I KNOW I was, because when I stood up to thank everyone after opening Wyatt’s gifts I started to cry. There was no way of stopping it either. I was thankful for the entire day but more importantly, for everyone that was in that room with me. Because I am so scatterbrained, I missed out on getting photos with lots of other ladies who were there…aunts, cousins, women from my bible study group and family friends. Fortunately I was able to get a few photos with my immediate family members, and the women from my church small group, as well as Natalie and her sister-in-law, Kate. Two very important people came all the way from California to be at the shower: my best friend, Natalie (who I’ve known since birth), and my mother-in-law. My sister-in-law Jenny also drove up from Houston that morning…keep in mind the shower started at 10 am, and Houston is anywhere from 4-5 hours away. Natalie’s original plan was to surprise me, but her brother accidentally spilled the beans a few weeks before.
