Owen Paul McDaniel

These images are long overdue considering that Owen is four months old now, but I think most people would agree that anytime is a good time for baby photos. He was contently sitting in my lap when I opened this post to write, and holy moly. The sweet newborn in these photos has grown to become the cutest squishy little Michelin man. His hair appears to be a lighter shade of brown and there’s a little bit less of it. I refer to it as “reverse balding” – all the hair is on top of his head with a small tuft on each side near his temples, and the rest is history.

This session was done in Jordan and Cheryl’s home right around lunch time. Owen got a feeding toward the end, which knocked him completely out for the remainder of the photos; lucky me! When babies are milk drunk, it’s amazing how much you can manipulate their tiny bodies without disturbing their precious slumber.
When shooting newborns there are a couple of keys I like to focus on when shooting – one of those is details. What a lot of people comment on with newborns is their darling noses, ears, fingers, toes, and sweet baby lips. All those details really make up who they are in the beginning, when I imagine all moms can do is stare at their lovable child.

Owen also has the spunkiest (and chattiest) big sis, who you’ve probably seen all over my social media. You’ll see that personality at the end of this post. Personally, my favorite shots are of momma with the baby. Maybe I’m just getting more emotional with my own current pregnancy, but moms are something special. There is a lot of sacrifice, decision making, love and “letting go” that comes with being a mom, and that doesn’t even cover it all. I have that type of mom, mother-in-law, and sisters-in-law. I’m fortunate to be surrounded by women who have gone before me in this mom-role because I have an abundance of knowledge and wisdom accessible to me.
