Nicole Cockcroft

I am an interesting hybrid of a human being. My work/passions are encompassed in two things: basketball and photography. I played basketball from 4th grade through college, and now coach a varsity girls basketball team and teach intermediate photography at the high school level. It’s common to find people doing one or the other, but not both. They are either “artsy” or “athletic.” I, however, am both. I’d lost my passion for the game, then out of the blue I picked up a coaching job at Lucas Christian Academy that made me fall in love with basketball all over again. I haven’t been on a team since college in 2011 (thats a long story for another time). Now I am back on the court with an entirely different role. They call me coach.

The cool and unexpected thing about working at Lucas Christian is the relationships I have developed over the last three years through teaching and coaching. The relationships most special to me are my students and athletes, and this post features someone I have watched grow over the last three years as an athlete and a young woman. Nicole Cockcroft has played for me for three years. This is her senior year, and it is bittersweet. I’m sad to see her go, but excited to see her go out into the world. She’s kind, embodies team spirit and isn’t afraid to challenge herself. She’s the type of person you want on your team, whether on or off the court. I could go on and on.

She’s smart and gorgeous, and can knock down a game winning shot (yup, last season!). I’m one proud coach.
